At approximately 11 million out of 21 million victims globally, the Asia-Pacific region has the greatest absolute numbers of forced labourers according to the International Labour Organization. Modern slavery in the region thrives due to an almost limitless supply of individuals desperate to accept tenuous work or migration opportunities, low cost for traffickers and little incentive to maintain workers. Its presence spans across many sectors including offshore fishing, agriculture, manufacturing, food processing, commercial sex, paid domestic, garments and construction industry.
