How Cambodia-based scammers made an estimated $3 million in ‘pig butchering’ scheme

Companies should be aware of the possibility of their customers being subjected to pig butchering. Cybercriminals use social engineering techniques to trick victims into disclosing sensitive information or transferring money, frequently via dating apps, social media sites, and random SMS text messages. Sophos discovered one of the hundreds of scam rings that use similar lures and nearly identical websites and apps. This lure is popular among Chinese organized crime operations operating out of Southeast Asian countries such as Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos.
