New data reveals thousands of modern slavery victims in the UK who sought help may have fallen back into exploitation, with over 2,000 people referred last year to support services having been referred before. Experts warn inadequate assistance leaves survivors vulnerable to re-trafficking, and call for immediate access to safe housing, counselling and other protections to prevent revictimization and reduce traffickers’ ability to repeatedly target individuals. Reform is urgently needed to guarantee survivors the support they require to recover and stay safe.
